I guess I'm in a minority here, but I have absolutely no idea why this book has so many high ratings. I thought the characters were rather wooden. Poet (stupid name) kind of had a personality but Maliki had none. Much of the dialogue was stilted and unrealistic (not normal conversations that average people might have).I never really bought into the relationship between Maliki and Poet, and to be honest, I gave up caring one way or the other by about the halfway point of the book. Their relationship was unemotional and flat with absolutely zero intensity. It was extremely difficult to get into this story. The basic outline of a decent story was there, but the delivery left much to be desired. There was no build or tension, which is very bad for something that is billed as a romantic suspense.I did manage to finish it, which is the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one. As stories go, though, this is just not good at all. Maybe my expectations and standards are too high because I expect a lot more from my fiction reading material. I got this one at a relatively cheap price, but I still regret wasting money on it.
